Betterworks Alternatives: 8 Vendors and What They Cost

SEPTEMBER 2026 · 9 MIN READ · BY THE ASSESSMENTCLOUD TEAM

Most Betterworks alternatives will not tell you what they cost. Of the eight vendors most often shortlisted against it, four publish a per-user rate you can act on, one publishes a minimum annual contract instead, and three publish nothing at all. Betterworks itself sits in the first group for performance management at $8 per user a month, and in the last group for engagement surveys, which sit only in its custom-priced Enterprise plan. This comparison sets out what each vendor states on its own pricing page, with the date we read it, so you can build a shortlist from published figures rather than from estimates.

Every figure below was read on the vendor's own pricing page, not on a review site, a reseller listing or a procurement database. The read dates are in the table. We are not affiliated with any of these companies, we do not resell any of them, and where a vendor publishes no rate we say so rather than repeating a third-party guess. Estimates for these products vary wildly between aggregators, and several of them contradict the vendor's own live page.

What are the best Betterworks alternatives?

The honest answer is that it depends on which half of Betterworks you were buying. Betterworks bundles performance management and, at the top tier only, engagement surveys. If reviews, goals and calibration are the job, Lattice and 15Five are the closest published-price alternatives. If engagement surveys are the job, Microsoft Viva Glint, Lattice and 15Five all print a rate while Culture Amp, Perceptyx, Workday Peakon and Leapsome do not.

That split matters more than any feature grid, because it decides whether you can budget before a sales call. A published rate lets you take a number to finance in an afternoon. A custom quote means a discovery call, a demo, a proposal and usually three weeks, and the number that comes back depends on your headcount, your modules and how the negotiation goes.

The 8 Betterworks alternatives and what each one costs

Rates are per user or per employee per month unless the row says otherwise. Where a vendor publishes no figure, the row says no published rate rather than an estimate.

VendorWhat it publishesMinimum or contract termsRead on
Betterworks (the incumbent) Performance $8; Performance plus Talent Intelligence $9. Enterprise custom, and Enterprise is the only tier with engagement surveys No hard minimum. States it adds the most value above 500 employees. Implementation is a separate one-time cost, amount not published 21 Sep 2026
Lattice Foundations $13; Performance $10 on the card; Goals and OKRs $8; Engagement $4; Compensation add-on $6; Grow add-on $4 $4,000 minimum annual agreement. Billed annually, US dollars only. Dedicated human support on all contracts 16 Sep 2026

Quantum Workplace No per-seat rate. Publishes a floor instead: packages start at $15,000 and the minimum annual contract is $15,000 Base pricing set by total employee count. Microsoft Viva Glint $2 per user a month as a standalone add-on, $6 inside Workplace Analytics, $12 within the Viva Suite Billed yearly. Bought through Microsoft licensing rather than a separate vendor contract 30 Aug 2026

Workday Peakon No published rate Has been sold on a multi-year term priced at full headcount rather than at the number of people you survey 10 Sep 2026
Perceptyx No published rate. Its pricing URL returns a 404 Quoted on request 2 Sep 2026
AssessmentCloud (ours, labeled as such) Flat monthly price from $49, published on our pricing page with no per-seat meter No headcount minimum, no implementation fee, no annual commitment required Current

Two patterns are worth pulling out of that table. First, the vendors that publish a per-seat rate are the ones selling performance management, and the vendors that go quiet are the ones selling engagement and listening programs. Second, the two floors in the table, Lattice at $4,000 a year and Quantum Workplace at $15,000, tell you more about who each vendor wants as a customer than any feature list does. For the full Betterworks card with every stated line and the totals at 500, 1,000 and 2,000 users, see our Betterworks pricing breakdown.

Which Betterworks alternative is cheapest?

For performance management at a published rate, Betterworks itself is the cheapest of the group at $8 per user a month, below 15Five Perform at $11 and Lattice Foundations at $13. For engagement surveys at a published rate, Microsoft Viva Glint is cheapest at $2 per user a month as an add-on, with Lattice Engagement and 15Five Engage both at $4. Nothing in this group undercuts those two numbers with a figure it will stand behind in writing.

The headline rate is not the invoice, though. Lattice's $4,000 minimum annual agreement means a 60-person company buying engagement only pays the floor rather than 60 times $4 times 12, which would be $2,880. Quantum Workplace's $15,000 floor does the same thing at a much higher level: a 200-person company is paying at least $6.25 per employee per month before it picks a single module, by our arithmetic from their published minimum. And Betterworks' implementation line is unpriced, so the cheapest published rate in the table sits next to the largest unknown.

Which alternatives publish an engagement survey price?

Three of them. Microsoft Viva Glint publishes $2 per user a month standalone, Lattice publishes Engagement at $4 a seat, and 15Five publishes Engage at $4 per user. Everyone else either quotes on request or, in Betterworks' case, puts the survey product inside a custom-priced Enterprise tier. That is the cleanest dividing line in this market and it is the one most comparison articles skip.

If you came to Betterworks specifically for engagement surveys, this is the finding that should change your shortlist. The $8 figure that appears in most Betterworks write-ups buys performance management. Engage, along with change management services, transformational program design and in-app guides, is listed under Enterprise only. So a Betterworks engagement deal and a Lattice engagement deal are not comparable purchases at the shortlist stage: one has a number and one has a meeting. Our Viva Glint pricing page and 15Five pricing page set out those two published rate cards line by line.

Betterworks vs Lattice vs 15Five on the performance rate

These three are the published-price cluster, and they are the ones that end up on the same shortlist most often. Run at 500 employees, which is the size Betterworks says it serves best, the annual totals from the published rates are as follows. This is our arithmetic, not a figure any of the three vendors prints.

Performance management at 500 employees, per yearPublished rateOur total
Betterworks Performance$8 per user a month$48,000 before implementation
Betterworks Performance plus Talent Intelligence$9 per user a month$54,000 before implementation
15Five Perform$11 per user a month$66,000
Lattice Foundations$13 a seat a month$78,000
15Five Total Platform (adds engagement)$16 per user a month$96,000

On those numbers Betterworks is the cheapest published performance option at this size by a wide margin, and the gap is large enough that the unpriced implementation line would have to be very large to close it. Where the ranking flips is scope. 15Five Total Platform at $16 includes engagement surveys, and no Betterworks plan below Enterprise does, so the $96,000 row and the $48,000 row are not buying the same thing. Lattice sits in the middle and unbundles the most: Performance, Goals and Engagement can each be bought on their own. Our Lattice pricing page has the full module-by-module card, and Leapsome pricing covers the one European option in this group, which publishes no rate at all.

What to ask every vendor on this shortlist before you sign

The published rate answers one question out of five. These are the four that decide the actual first-year number, and every vendor in the table above answers them differently.

  1. What is the implementation charge, as its own line? Betterworks states implementation is a separate one-time cost and does not publish the amount. Leapsome states there is no setup fee. Those are opposite commercial models and the difference can be five figures on a 500-person rollout.
  2. What counts as a billable seat, and how are mid-year hires trued up? Betterworks prices on active user population. Workday Peakon has been sold at full headcount regardless of how many people you actually survey. If your headcount moves, this question can outweigh the rate.
  3. Is support included or does it start at a spend threshold? Betterworks, Lattice and 15Five all state support is included for every customer. Leapsome limits customer success to annual contracts of US$6,000 or more. That is a real cost difference dressed up as a service tier.
  4. What is the renewal rate and is the price locked for the term? A clean first-year quote means very little if year two reprices. Ask for the renewal terms in the same document as the initial rate.

One more item belongs on that list and it is not a pricing question. Every vendor here will go through your security review before procurement signs, which means SOC 2 reports, a data processing agreement and a certificate of insurance, each with its own expiry date that somebody has to track. Teams that run several vendor contracts at once usually end up needing a way to keep the obligations and control evidence in one place rather than in a spreadsheet that goes stale between renewals. Budget the review time, not just the license.

Which Betterworks alternative fits which buyer

Rather than rank them, here is the honest mapping by the job you are buying for.

  • You want published per-seat performance management above 500 employees. Betterworks at $8 is the cheapest published rate in this group. Get the implementation quote in writing first.
  • You want to buy engagement surveys on their own, at a known rate. Microsoft Viva Glint at $2 if you are already in the Microsoft licensing estate, otherwise Lattice Engagement or 15Five Engage at $4.
  • You are under 100 people. 15Five states no minimum on its standard packages, which makes it the least punishing of the published-price options at small headcounts. Lattice's $4,000 floor and Quantum Workplace's $15,000 floor both hurt disproportionately here.
  • You want modules unbundled. Lattice sells Performance, Goals and Engagement separately and prints each rate.
  • You want a trial before a sales call. Leapsome is the only vendor in the group that publishes a 14-day free trial with no credit card, although it publishes no price to go with it.
  • You are not sure people are the constraint yet. None of the above. A performance suite assumes the problem is performance management, and that assumption costs $48,000 a year at the cheapest published rate in this table.

Before you pick any of them, check what the problem actually is

Every vendor in this comparison sells the same underlying assumption: that measuring and managing individual people is the lever. Sometimes it is. Often the reason delivery slips is that a process has no owner, two systems do not talk to each other, a compliance obligation is sitting unassigned, or a skills gap opened up two reorganizations ago. A review cycle does not surface any of that, and neither does an engagement survey.

AssessmentCloud scores culture, process, digital maturity, skills and compliance readiness against an industry median and tells you which of the five is dragging, for a flat monthly price from $49 with no per-seat meter, no headcount minimum and no implementation fee. It takes an afternoon rather than a quarter, and it costs less than the discovery process for any vendor in the table above. Run it first, then buy the performance suite that fits what it found, or do not buy one at all. You can see the plans and start now, and employee engagement survey vendors covers the wider field of who publishes a rate and who quotes.
